Zambia Safari Highlights
Zambia is the land of milk and honey, boasting premier wildlife viewing, unparalleled peace and stability, and one of the natural wonders of the world: the celebrated Victoria Falls. A Zambia safari should arguably be one of the best moments of your life. Zambia shed the suffocating yoke of colonialism over four decades ago and since then the country has been inspirational.
Political stability has, in turn, led to an economic revival that has turned Zambia into one of the unrivalled leaders of Southern Africa. She is blessed with large tracts of fertile land that, through hard work, has become one of the bread baskets of Africa. Her people are relatively robust and healthy, and are renowned for their inordinate warmth to all visitors to this quiet and unassuming corner of Africa.
Zambia offers superb wild life, scenic beauty
incorporating 17 waterfalls (including the legendary Victoria
Falls), the Zambezi River, breath-taking lakes and wetlands,
excellent national parks, and some of the finest safaris on
offer. Also available are activities ranging from walking
safaris, canoeing, tiger fishing to white-water rafting and
bungee jumping. Zambia is a landlocked country located between
the southern rim of the Zaire Basin and the Zambezi River.
It has land borders with Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and
Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, Angola and Zaire. Most of
Zambia is a high plateau.
Weather
Its location on the plateau gives Zambia its moderate climate
even though it is located in tropical latitudes. There are
three seasons: the cool and dry winter season from May to
September; the hot and dry season in October and November;
and the rainy and wet season, which is even hotter, from December
to April. Zambia's summer and rainy season occur from November
to April.
Some History
This region lay untouched by Europeans for centuries. It was
only after the mid 19th century that Western explorers, missionaries,
and traders infiltrated. Well known missionary and explorer
David Livingstone became the first European to see the Victoria
Falls on the Zambezi River in 1855. It subsequently became
a British colony and was named Northern Rhodesia. In 1953
it was combined with Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and Nyasaland
(Malawi) as part of a federation until its independence and
name change to Zambia in 1964. |
