Gastronomic Delights Tour
Day 1
|
Begin today with a Cape Winelands orientation
lecture on discovering the South African Wine Industry
- the various regions; grape varieties; how to read a
South African wine label; certification and an introduction
to sparkling, white and red wine varietals of the Cape.
Depart for the winelands and guided by your lecturer,
spend an afternoon of wine tasting, meeting the wine makers.
Enjoy a lunch that provides an opportunity to pair wine
with food. En route back to Cape Town, visit a wine shop
/ shipper where you can purchase wines and have them shipped
home. Arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon. This
evening there is a personalised African gourmet experience
in a Camps Bay home arranged by your hotel.

Day 2
|
Travel from Cape Town into the Stellenbosch
area and stop at Kanonkop Wine Estate. Their internationally
acclaimed vintner has established Kanonkop as one of the
Cape's 'First Growths' and is renowned for their Pinotage,
Cabernet and a classic red blend. A tour of the historical
town of is followed by lunch at Boschendal Restaurant
for one of the finest traditional buffets in South Africa.
A last wine tasting of the day at Clos Cabriere Estate
to taste their fine Pierre Jourdan Cap Classic sparkling
wines and elegant Pinot Noir. The overnight stop is in
the delightful quaint village of Franschhoek, the 'French
Corner' of South Africa.

Day 3
|
After breakfast travel through the spectacular
Franschhoek Pass via Villiersdorp to Madeba, home of Graham
Beck Wines, well known for their sparkling wines and fine
Shiraz. Enjoy the wine whilst admiring the spectacular
view of the vines of the Breede River Valley. Continue
to the estate of Chardonnay and sample the infamous De
Wetshof Chardonnay. A country lunch follows before heading
on to the overnight stop in Montagu where an optional
visit to the hot-springs is available.

Day 4
|
After breakfast, head back through the Breede
River Valley and the town of Worcester on to Wellington
and sample some of the undiscovered wines of this lesser
known area. Descend the mountains into Paarl via the magnificent
Bainskloof Pass with its wonderful views of the Boland.
Enjoy lunch at Bosmans Restaurant, one of the top ten
restaurants in South Africa. A last stop at the boutique
winery Glen Carlou for a tasting of fine red wines before
returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon. |

Notes on this quote
- The majority of wine estates in the Paarl, Franschhoek
and Stellenbosch region are open on Saturday mornings. Lesser
wine estates remain open on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
- Bosman's Restaurant will be closed during the period
June, July and August.
