Gourmet Wine Tour Roundtrip
Day 1
|
Arrive Cape Town
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport. Your guide
will meet & greet and transfer you to your hotel for check-in
and time at leisure. Depart on an early afternoon city
tour. Visit the Company Gardens, Castle of Good Hope,
Parliament buildings and the historic city centre with
its multi cultural flair, architecture, cultural attractions
and natural beauty. Weather-permitting, ascend Table Mountain
and enjoy stunning views and the panorama roundabout walk
with your guide. Descend and drive to the northern suburbs
of Milnerton and Table View. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant
with post-card views of Table Mountain while watching
the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean. Return to hotel.

Day 2
|
Cape Town
Embark on a full day tour along the Cape Peninsula. Travel
through the up market beachfront suburbs of Clifton, Camps
Bay and Llandudno to the scenic harbour of Hout Bay. Enjoy
the spectacular drive over Chapman's Peak Pass (road conditions
permitting) and continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature
Reserve. At Cape Point enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean
and False Bay. Leave the nature reserve and drive to Cape
Point Ostrich Farm for a guided tour and lunch before
continuing along the east coast of the Peninsula. Stop
at Boulders Beach and view the famous Jackass penguin
colony. Continue via Simons Town, Fish Hoek and Muizenberg
to the oldest wine region of the Cape, Constantia. After
a wine tasting at Constantia Uitsig continue to Groot
Constantia for a cellar tour and wine tasting. Groot Constantia
is known for its Gouveneurs Reserve and Gouveneurs Shiraz.
Arrive back at the hotel in the late afternoon for an
evening at leisure. Please ask your guide for a restaurant
recommendation.

Day 3
|
Cape Town / Franschhoek
Depart Cape Town and drive to the wine region of Paarl.
Visit the Taal Monument. Continue to Seidelberg wine estate,
well known for it's rosé and chardonnay wines. After a
wine-tasting, visit the Red Hot glass blowing workshop.
Continue to Fairview wine estate, to taste the large selection
of cheeses and wines. Travel to Rheboksloof wine estate
where lunch will be served on the terrace or inside the
restaurant. The top wines here are Chardonnay Grande Reserve
and Cabernet Sauvignon. After lunch, enjoy a wine tasting
and short walk around the lake on the estate. Continue
to Paarl and enjoy a walk through the town and afterwards
visit another wine estate. Continue to Franschhoek, Valley
of the French Huguenots. Check into your hotel. The rest
of the evening is at leisure to possibly stroll through
the village. We recommend having dinner at one of the
top restaurants such as Le Quartier Francais, Reuben's
or the French Connection Bistro. We will gladly make a
reservation for you at the start of your tour - please

Day 4
|
Franschhoek / Stellenbosch / Franschhoek
This morning visit the famous town of Stellenbosch - the
heart of the wine industry and university centre where
old oak trees line the streets and historic Cape Dutch
style architecture can be seen. Enjoy a walking tour,
visit the Village Museum and Oom Samie se Winkel - a traditional
general dealer. Depart Stellenbosch and drive over Helshoogte
Pass to Hillcrest Berry Orchards to possibly buy jams,
berry vinegar and enjoy the beautiful views over Banhoek
Valley. Take a short walk across the farm and enjoy a
glass of delicious berry juice and home baked specialties
on the terrrace or inside the tea room. Continue to Grande
Provence Estate, home to Agusta Wines, well known for
its top Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnays. Enjoy a cellar
tour and wine tasting followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Return to Franschhoek and your hotel, where the rest of
the day is at leisure. Should you want to have dinner
at one of the local gourmet restaurants, please reserve
with your guide at the start of the tour.

| Day 5 |
Franschhoek / Oudtshoorn
In the morning visit the Huguenot Monument and Museum
in Franschhoek, show-casing the rich heritage and history
as well as the development of the Franschhoek Valley.
Afterwards, observe the making of fine Belgian chocolate
at Huguenot Fine Chocolates. Drive via the renowned Route
62 - the world's longest wine route - along the Breede
River Valley and the Little Karoo, passing beautiful landscapes,
mountains, passes, rivers, wine estates and fruit plantations.
Stop at Calitzdorp to enjoy lunch followed by a visit
to Boplaas and De Krans wine estates. De Krans is most
famous for its port and Boplaas is known for its port,
as well as for its brandy making. Continue your drive
to Oudtshoorn, known as the ostrich capital and arrive
at your hotel in the late afternoon for check-in. The
rest of the day is at your leisure. We recommend the local
specialty restaurant "Jemimas", one of the top restaurants
in Oudtshoorn. We will gladly make a booking, please reserve
with your guide at the start of the tour.

| Day 6 |
Oudtshoorn / Knysna
Depart Oudtshoorn and drive over the Outeniqua Pass to
Wilderness. Here meet up with the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe,
one of the last remaining steam trains in South Africa.
Enjoy the slow panoramic trip through Sedgefield, Goukamma
Nature Reserve and on to Knysna. Please note: The Choo-Tjoe
train service may be withdrawn from operation on days
when the Fire Danger Index exceeds 55. Knysna is one of
the most beautiful natural landscapes and forms part of
a string of lakes, calm forest and golden beaches. Enjoy
a visit to an oyster farm and learn how they are harvested.
Check into your hotel. Dinner will be at the Oyster Company,
where you can enjoy some of the delicious oysters, which
rank amongst the best in the world.

| Day 7 |
Knysna
Visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve one of South Africa's
Natural Heritage Sites. Transfer by ferry across the lagoon
to the western head. On arrival guests board a Unimog
drawn trailer and drive up to the top of the reserve and
stop at a scenic lookout point. Here specialist guides
will share some interesting tales about Knysna and the
surrounding area. Enjoy an optional guided nature walk
takes you through the forest, cliffs, into the caves and
along the scenic coast before lunch under the Milkwood
Trees. Return to the mainland and continue to the Noetzi
Castles and the Garden of Eden. The rest of the afternoon
is at leisure to stroll through the village with its many
art and craft shops. Optional dinner at the beautiful
Phantom Forest Restaurant (not included). We will gladly

| Day 8 |
Knysna / Kleinmond
Depart Knysna and drive along the Garden Route via Albertinia,
where you will visit an aloe farm. These medicinal plants
are used in cosmetics and as herbal cures. Continue your
trip to Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa
and enjoy lunch. Afterwards visit the berry plantations
of Wildebraam Liqueurs for a liqueur tasting and continue
to Kleinmond where you will overnight. The rest of the
evening is at your leisure.

| Day 9 |
Kleinmond / Cape Town
During whale season (July to December), drive to Hermanus
for land-based whale watching. Hermanus is surrounded
by Walker Bay and beautiful mountains. Here the southern
right whales, which come to breed and calf. Out of whale
season, visit Hemel en Aarde Valley near Hermanus. This
Onrust River valley is of breathtaking beauty. Visit two
wine estates i.e. Hamilton Russell and Bouchard Finlayson.
Enjoy lunch en route. Continue along the coastal panorama
route with views onto Sandown Bay, and False Bay. Reach
Somerset West where you will visit Morgenster Wine Estate,
specializing in various Bordeaux style wines and also
known for its prize winning olive oils and other olive
products. Enjoy a wine- and olive-tasting. Continue to
arrive in the late afternoon to Cape Town and check into
your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure. You may want
to try one of the many award winning restaurants in Cape
Town. We will gladly make a booking, please reserve with

| Day 10 |
Cape Town
After breakfast, transfer to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
and enjoy a boat trip to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela
spent most of his time when he was in captivity. An ex
prisoner will guide you through the prison museum and
grounds and will explain about the life of the former
prisoners on the island. Board a bus for a sightseeing
trip around the island, past a quarry where prisoners
had to work. Return to the mainland to enjoy some time
to stroll around the shops and craft markets of the waterfront
complex. In the afternoon, visit the District Six Museum
- named after the sixth municipal district of Cape Town
- and learn all about the history of Apartheid, forced
removals and about this former culturally diverse district.
Continue to the Malay Quarter / Bo-kaap and experience
a highlight of the wine and gourmet tour: join the Cape
Malay cooking safari, and learn all about the diverse
dishes of this part of Cape Town. You will start the safari
on a walk through the neighbourhood, where you will go
shopping for the ingredients. During the cooking session
in a private home, you will learn about the history, culture
and religion of this area, which is all linked to the
food. Enjoy a traditional meal and exchange information
with the cook and people of the house.

Depart Cape Town
Breakfast at the hotel. Latest check-out of the hotel
at 11h00. Transfer to Cape Town International Airport
for your onward flight. |

Notes:
- The majority of wine estates in the Paarl, Franschhoek
and Stellenbosch region are open on Saturday mornings. Lesser
wine estates remain open on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
- A service level agreement was signed between Transnet
Foundation and Knysna Municipality that coal fired locomotives
will be withdrawn from operating on days when the Fire Danger
Index exceeds 55. Information is obtained the day before
from the Weather Services at Cape Town International Airport.
Guides will be able to confirm the afternoon before and
advise the group accordingly. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe operates
daily except Sundays during Summer and only on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays during Winter (01 May - 31 August).
