Durban
Busy Durban is the heart of the province's business and tourist
industry and a major port city. Durban's beachfront is adorned
with luxury hotels and boasts spectacular beaches.
- Grey Street - Durban's Indian District and the
best place to enjoy spicy local food. The Juma Musjid Mosque
can be found here, with its gilt-domed minarets it is the
largest mosque in the southern hemisphere.
- The Golden Mile-This mile takes in the stretch
of golden sandy beaches on Durban's. Included in the mile
are some of Durban's popular beaches, the snake park - home
to exotic and South Africa species, mini town - miniature
replicas of Durban's best known buildings, the Sunken Gardens
and Amphitheatre, Ushaka Marine World, paddling pools as
well as a permanent fun-fair. There are also a few restaurants
scattered along the mile as well as well known luxury hotels.
- Ushaka Marine World -Situated at the end of Durban's
Golden Mile is Africa's largest theme park which is tastefully
themed with African imagery incorporating fresh and sea
water, lush vegetation, natural materials and the recreation
of a 1920's cargo ship wreck into a magical world of sea
and marine life.
- Ricksha Rides - Almost a landmark on Durban's
beachfront, this traditional experience is not to be missed.
Ricksha-pullers are noted for their magnificently decorated
head-dresses along with their brightly decked out rickshas.
- Durban Botanical Gardens - The city's oldest natural
attraction, the gardens are world renown for having the
finest collection of plant life anywhere in Africa and also
contain the original species of Encephalitis woodii - a
cycad that is still acknowledged as possibly the rarest
plant in the world.
- Wilson's Wharf - Durban's trendiest waterfront
complex offering the visitor a cross section of diverse
entertainment from restaurants, pubs and coffee shops, to
arts and crafts, a 165 seater theatre, to a marina and working
slipway.
- Umgeni River Bird Park - Situated on the banks
of the Umgeni River and consists of stunning waterfalls
and lush vegetation and forming a magnificent backdrop for
more than 400 species of birds.

The Dolphin (North) Coast
The frequent sightings of bottlenose dolphins in the warm
Indian Ocean have given rise to the coast's name. There is
a relaxed small coastal village holiday atmosphere.
- Ballito - well known for its superb, safe beaches
and as the playground of the bottlenose dolphins. Whales
can also be seen here on their annual migration to Mozambique
for the summer.
- Umhlanga Rocks - Originally established as part
of a sugar estate, it is now a very popular holiday resort
town.
