Pietermartizburg and the Midlands
The combination of regional beauty as well as many sporting
and sight seeing activities make this area one of the most
scenic and popular in Kwa Zulu Natal.
- Valley of a Thousand Hills - Just 45km from Durban
is a picturesque drive along the tightly folded hills where
Zulu people still live in traditional homesteads. The views
here are magnificent and it is well worth a visit.
- The Inanda Heritage Route -The route takes in
relevant historical events and is also home to the biggest
Shembe church whose organization is an interesting mixture
of Christian dogma and the doctrines of Zulu culture.
- Pietermaritzburg- Situated among the forested
hills and countryside of the Natal Midlands, Pietermaritzburg
has a strong colonial heritage and is one of the best-preserved
Victorian cities in the world. It is centrally located between
Durban, the Drakensberg and KwaZulu-Natal's game reserves
and the gateway between Johannesburg and Durban.
- Midlands Meander - A diverse mix of arts, crafts
and restaurants along with a wide range of sporting, environmental
and historical sights situated in beautiful surroundings
and lush rolling green hills.

The Battlefields
Some of South Africa's most turbulent wars took place in
this scenic and tranquil landscape of central and northern
KwaZulu-Natal. North of the Tugela River marks the place of
gruesome battles which spanned over 70 years, where fearless,
spear-wielding Zulu foot soldiers first encountered the British
Empire's sophisticated weapons and where each faced the unfamiliar
warfare methods of the Boer. These military events shaped
the course of South African and world history and rocked the
foundation of the British Empire
