The South Coast
The South Coast is one of South Africa's most popular holiday
destinations and is characterized by wide open beaches, thick
coastal dune forest and lagoons. It is also known as the Golf
Coast due to the comprehensive selection of 11 courses here.
- The Hibiscus Coast -South Africa's top beaches
can be found here namely - Uvongo and Margate and offer
secure swimming and amazing surfing possibilities.
- The Sardine Run -The South Coast experiences the
remarkable annual migration of sardines and the sardines
can be seen in their feeding frenzy as they move from the
Natal South Coast to Mozambique. Dolphins, sharks and game
fish are always followed by the sardine run.
- Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve - Excellent hiking
opportunities are offered here. Cliffs and forests and spectacular
hiking trails can all be found. Many antelope are seen here
as well as the Oribi (after which the gorge is named) although
not too often.

The Drakensberg
The Drakensberg mountain range or uKhahlamba (the Barrier
of Spears to the Zulus) was declared a World Heritage Site
in 2000. The Drakensberg, or 'Dragon Mountain' or The Berg
- as it's popularly known - is a very popular region for nature
and outdoor enthusiasts.
- The Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park - Bordering Lesotho,
it is often referred to as" Little Switzerland" and features
stunning waterfalls, mountain peaks and rock faces adorned
with San rock art. Giant's Castle Game Reserve lies in the
central region of the park and includes the Didima Valley
with its many examples of San Rock art. Cathedral Peak area
has splendid scenery and magnificent views.
- The San/Bushmen -The San people or Bushmen first
populated this area of the Drakensberg. 17 shelters and
over 4000 Bushman paintings are found in Drakensberg caves.
- Central Drakensberg - The Champagne Castle area
is dominated by Cathkin Peak - the most prominent feature
here and an area with some of the highest peaks in the Drakensberg
Mountains. Champagne Valley is noted for its many different
sporting activities, especially golf.
- Royal Natal National Park - This area has numerous
walks and hikes from easy to day long treks. The main feature
here is the word famous Amphitheatre. A further feature
is the Tugela Falls which forms the second highest waterfall
in the world.
