Kwa Zulu Natal Travel Information
The 'Kingdom of the Zulu' is a blend of cultures combining
African, European and Indian traditions into a mixture of
diverse sights, tastes and regional highlights. Known as the
garden province and home to the Zulu Nation, Kwa Zulu Natal
proudly boasts two World Heritage Sites - the Greater St Lucia
Wetland Park and the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park – both of which we include in our KwaZulu Natal tours.
Kwa Zulu Natal is divided into two main areas; namely the
north and south coasts. It is then subdivided into an additional
eight regions as follows:
Kwa Zulu Natal Weather
An endless summer can be expected in Kwa Zulu Natal. It is
a region with a tropical climate and generous rainfall during
the summer months. During the Christmas holiday season (summer
months) it can get extremely hot and humid along the coast
with milder temperatures inland.
Kwa Zulu Natal Some History
On Christmas day in 1497 Vasco Da Gama was the first European
to see the coast of Natal (the original name of the region,
meaning Christmas in Portuguese). From its early days, the
province has been the scene of many fierce battles - being
the bone of contention between the Zulus and the Voortrekkers;
the British Empire and Boer settlers (Anglo-Boer War); the
Zulus and the British Empire. The region consisted of a semi
independent tribal homeland for the Zulu people. At the end
of apartheid in 1994 it was re-incorporated into the Natal
province and the province was renamed Kwa Zulu Natal.
