  The Valley of Olifants
 

This region is rich in wildlife, scenery, mountains, rivers as well as cultural and ethnic attractions. Some of the oldest remains of prehistoric human habitation can be seen here. These are ancient lands, with a unique history of the Stone Age San.

  • The Hoedspruit Research and Breeding Centre for Endangered Species -This is a unique project which conducts essential research on endangered species, especially the cheetah, and provides the opportunity to view animals which have found a home here.

  • Elephant Back Safaris - Situated in Kapama game reserve, visitors can enjoy an exclusive game experience. The camp is named after Jabulani - one of the African elephants raised by the Hoedspruit Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

  • The Georges Valley - Said to be one of the most scenic drives in Southern Africa comprising indigenous forests, waterfalls, lakes and craggy kloofs

  • Magoebaskloof Pass - This steep, winding, deeply forested pass is situated between Pietersburg and Tzaneen " Makapansgat Caves - An archaeological site of global importance, reflecting the lifestyle and culture of the first people to discover gold.

The Soutpansberg Region

Consisting of remarkably diverse fauna and flora - from indigenous mountain fynbos to ancient Baobab trees and forests - the region has varied natural, geological, archaeological and cultural systems, and a fascinating history.

  • Musina (Messina) - The northernmost is known for its many baobab trees, all of which are declared national monuments in particular, The Elephant's Trunk.

  • Mapungubwe National Park - Meaning 'a place of the stone of wisdom', the park has numerous archaeological sites dating from the Early Stone Age and is the most remarkable Iron Age site in the country. Artefacts found here rank among the most important pieces of ancient art yet found in sub-Saharan Africa and also contains a considerable amount of San Rock Art sites.

  • vhaVenda People - This indigenous tribe are famous for their house painting, singing and tribal dancing. They retain their ancient traditions and visitors can barter for traditional crafts.
