Mpumalanga is a summer rainfall area with hot humid summers, particularly in the lowveld regions, and mild winters. Mpumalanga can be divided into seven regions:

Some Mpumalanga History
This region became famous though the gold rush era at the beginning of 1885 which led to the immigration of many foreigners to the Transvaal. In 1899 the increasing fear of war on the region led the Boers to put together a defensive strike. However, in 1900 the Second Boer War resulted in the inclusion of the Transvaal into the British Empire. Ten years later the Boer republics, together with the Cape Colony, formed the Union of South Africa until 1961, when it became the Republic of South Africa. The PWV area (Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vereeniging) in the Transvaal (now Gauteng) was formed and became the economic powerhouse in South Africa - a position it still holds today. Following the country’s first democratic elections in 1994, the former provinces and homelands were reorganized and now consist of Gauteng, North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces respectively.
