Sanctuary Chiefs Camp

Upgraded Sanctuary Chief’s Camp opening soon

The newly refurbished main area at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp will be opening on 21 April 2010. This award winning camp in the exclusive Mombo concession, part of the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve, is busy undergoing an extensive refurbishment. The lounge and dining area decking will be extended, along with new furniture and will also be covered by a new thatch roof.

A new boma area will be constructed for evening dining and barbeque nights next to the new dining deck. In addition to this, the bar area and gift shop area will be refurbished and extended. A new library area and desk for guest laptops will also be created.

This area is known as the 'predator capital of Africa' and is also home to large herds of elephant and buffalo, making Sanctuary Chief's the ideal place to experience African wildlife at close hand. Twelve luxury bush pavilions are hidden away in a jackalberry and sausage tree woodland that is characteristic of the area. All have their own private decks and outdoor showers, as well as fully-equipped bathroom inside.

New camp for Africa on Foot

Africa on Foot is to open a new camp, nThambo Tree Camp, in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in the Kruger National Park. The new camp will be able to accommodate eight guests in four tree ‘chalets’ and will also feature a main area with lounge, dining room, bar and boma. Activities here will include morning game drives and afternoon/night drives.

In addition to the new camp, Africa on Foot also has five chalets and a tree house where more adventurous guests can sleep under the stars. Two of the chalets are family units.

All ensure an intimate and personal safari experience as well as a pool, lounge and dining area and the traditional boma where guests can enjoy evening camp fires and traditional South African barbecues called "braais".

Activities here include morning game drives and afternoon/night drives as well as walking safaris that are led by experienced and professional game rangers through a wildlife area rich in game and a whole host of other wildlife.

News from Ilala Lodge - the perfect place from which to explore the Falls

The perfect base for exploring all the Victoria Falls has to offer, Ilala Lodge is ideally situated closest to Victoria Falls as well as the town centre.

The hotel recently welcomed a new head chef who is hard at work sprucing up the menu with exciting and innovative additions. Their range of mouth-watering dishes includes scrumptious health salads and exotic choices like the crocodile, warthog as well as kudu with divine trimmings!

The beginning of March was met with a series of heavy rains up river causing the water levels at the Falls to rise and fall sporadically. The cloud of spray is visible and the roar of the falling water audible as you sit on the terrace and enjoy a meal or drinks at the hotel.

The lush green lawns and leafy trees are attracting their tusked friends - elephants have been coming on to the lawn right up to the Hotel - one of the exciting events when you are in a National Park!

The hotel provides distinguished accommodation in 32 standard rooms and 2 deluxe suites, all with patio doors leading onto either open lawn or a balcony. Facilities include a swimming pool and bar, small conference facilities as well as the Palm Restaurant and terrace. A new gift shop outlet has recently opened which stocks a wide array of trinkets and souvenirs. Pictures courtesy Eric Gauss
