  Casterbridge Hotel goes "Green"

Seasons in Africa is expanding its eco-friendly hotel options for travellers who want to decrease their carbon footprint and incorporate environmentally sustainable destinations.

Their most recent “green” leisure project is the Casterbridge Hollow Hotel, situated in White River in the Mpumalanga Province. Here visitors can still enjoy a luxury experience without compromising the environment.

Supporting the use of sustainable and green energy, the hotel is fitted with solar panels, reducing the dependence on coal-fired electricity. The 26 rooms and 4 family suites all have eco-friendly bathrooms and every possible detail has been attended to in order to save energy.

Another important and often overlooked aspect of sustainable travel is the impact on local communities. Through the Seasons in Africa Foundation, the group has been able to assist the local communities through initiated programs to ultimately alleviate poverty, increase local pride as well as ownership and create sustainable alternatives to destructive use of resources.   New look for &Beyond's Phinda Forest Lodge
Phinda Lodge - Refurbished suite
Phinda Lodge - Guest Area Deck
Phinda Lodge - Boma

Phinda Forest Lodge has received a new look. The &Beyond lodge is set in rare sand forest in one of the most unique ecosystemts on the planet.

Using only local artisans and labour to complete the new rebuild, the metamorphosis of the lodge took place at a slow pace to protect the natural surroundings. The layout of the 16 glass suites was altered to ensure sheer privacy and intimacy, while celebrating the remarkable forest surrounds.

While still retaining The lodge’s signature sophisticated Zulu Zen style, the overall look was updated; woodwork was replaced; new floors and windows installed. Each bathroom was given new fittings. The stone and sand palate has been artistically accented with a soft Zulu orange and dark, handsome furniture used throughout.

The deck in the guest area has been extended, splitting it into two levels. Furnishings are still minimalist chic but have been updated with additional layers and detail. The theatre of food spills into the guest areas in an open breakfast zone where chefs can be seen cooking up a storm in the interactive kitchen.

The boma, used for dining under the stars, has been completely rebuilt using innovative gabions filled with gum poles. The space has been reconfigured and an elevated platform added for night time choir performances.

With its fresh new look and unique location in a rare dry sand forest, Forest Lodge is a wonderful base from which to explore the game-rich reserve during the day and then enjoy being wrapped in luxury and romance at night.

  Driving in style through Zimbabwe
Driving in style in a classic Mercedes-Benz
Who says you can’t do a self-drive through Zimbabwe, much less in a convoy of classic Mercedes Benz’s!? A recent 10-day rally through Zimbabwe showed that is not only possible, but that there’s a high standard of hospitality available to the self-drive holiday maker.

A group driving 10 classic Mercedes-Benz models travelled throughout Zimbabwe last month, taking in the sights of this incredibly beautiful country. One of their first stops en route included Bulawayo where they visited Matopos and Rhodes Grave. They were then escorted into Victoria Falls by a local Mercedes-Benz owner for a photo shoot and lunch at the Victoria Falls Hotel.

The Victoria Falls Safari Lodge was their next port of call where they were welcomed with champagne and a drumming session and afterwards headed to Lokuthula Lodges. Their visit included several activities including viewing the Falls and a dinner cruise on the Zambezi.

Next on the agenda was to board the Kariba Ferry. A 22-hour journey later, they were welcomed by local classic car enthusiasts at the Meikles Hotel in Harare before moving on to the historic Leopard Rock Hotel in the stunning Eastern Highlands.

Masvingo and the Inn of Great Zimbabwe was the next stop where they spent time exploring the Great Zimbabwe ruins. All good things do come to an end and the following day was a drive south to Beit Bridge crossing and back into South Africa and the end of their adventurous journey!

    Soccer World Cup 2010

MICE TEAM
SA Flag
  “Viva Vuvuzela Ayobaness”

Long after the face paint has faded, the spotlights dimmed, the stadiums and the Vuvuzela’s silenced, the Kuoni Private Safaris Destination Management Soccer World Cup team in Cape Town will reminisce and ponder Africa’s Time to Shine

It is with great sadness and a proudly beating African heart that the much anticipated 2010 SWC is now virtually something of the past. We are both exhilarated and privileged to have been part of this once in a lifetime global event.

The atmosphere around the country has been "FANTASTIC”! The spirit, the flags, the laughter and even the tears shared in the stadiums and the fan parks have all added to an incredible experience, not only for the throng of international visitors, but also the proud host nation.

The country has benefited greatly from hosting this event with the upgrading of the international airports, roads and transport infrastructure, the most notable being the launch of our first mass rapid transit railway, the Gautrain, which links Johannesburg, Pretoria and OR Tambo International Airport. The socio-economic benefits are priceless, visible and ‘tangible’ in the smiles that greet you wherever you go!

The event has showcased South Africa to international visitors and has shown that the country is more than capable of hosting an event of this magnitude. Beyond and above it all, it has unified us as a proud African country, alive with possibility and more than ready to welcome the world to our unforgettable destination.
