Corporate Responsibility Day in Cape Town
Due to our National Voting day falling on the 22nd April, our Corporate Responsibility Day took place on the 21st April. The day started off with the staff arriving at work dressed in the beautiful ‘Colours of the Earth’- the dress theme for the day.

The CR Day PowerPoint presentation was sent out to all staff and the managers presented their departments with pot plants to ‘green-up’ the office. We then proceeded to transform the office into a tropical paradise with the training room as our ‘Rainforest’ which included the sounds of waterfalls and animals of the Amazon. This is where the training sessions were held regarding the impact paper usage is having on the environment and how we can contribute to saving paper in the office and at home.

After the training sessions were completed a paper recycling firm arrived to collect all used paper. The staff were then surprised with a wonderful lunch sponsored by suppliers who supported and commended our paper saving initiative.

After lunch, the CR Day Ambassadors spoke to the staff and asked them for feedback and paper saving ideas. The end of the day saw a prize giving for the ‘Best Effort’ and ‘Most innovative paper saving idea’. Fun was had by all and the message was loud and clear – saving paper is an important factor in minimizing the adverse effects on our environment!
Soccer World Cup 2010
Cape Town soccer stadiums go green
The City of Cape Town has approved a "green" project to irrigate their 2010 Soccer World Cup stadiums. The new Green Point Stadium will be irrigated with natural spring water from Table Mountain.

The use of underground spring water from natural springs situated above a Reservoir in the city bowl is the most favourable solution. The reservoir has enough spring water to irrigate the entire Green Point Common as well as the adjacent Mouille Point Promenade and beach front.
The project will include a water supply pipeline from these natural springs to the Green Point Common area which, until now, has been irrigated with pure drinking water.

In keeping with the objectives of the 2010 World Cup Project, the need to reduce the long-term demand on potable water to irrigate the area was identified at an early stage. This article first appeared on the South African news website Independent Online. Photo: Cape Town Tourism.
