Northern Province Travel Information

This region lies to the south of the Orange River and comprises mostly desert and semi-desert. The landscape is characterized by vast dry plains, wide-open spaces and a magnificently beautiful coastline. It is home to the ancient San people and is rich in San rock engravings and in fossils.

The Climate
This semi-arid region has extreme seasons and particularly hot conditions in the summer with little rainfall. In winter snow often blankets the surrounding mountains.
