in a malaria free area and includes the Pilanesberg and Madikwe
game reserves, as well as the opportunity to share in the
rich cultural and historical heritage. The region boasts three
World Heritage sites: The Cradle of Humankind (shared with

Site, covered in our tours to the North West Province.
The North West Province can be divided into four regions:
The North West Province Climate
In summer the weather is hot. Winters are relatively warm
during the day, but the evenings can be cool.
Some North West Province History
Pre-European history consisted of tribal conflicts between
the local Tswana people and the migrating Ndebele people who
had fled Zululand to escape from Shaka. Between 1899 and 1902,
no less than 20 major battles took place across the old Western
Transvaal - now the Eastern half of the North West Province.
After the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910,
most of the area formed part of the "old Transvaal" and in
1961 the Republic of South Africa was founded. The implementation
of the Homeland Policy lead to the incorporation of a large
part of the North West into a Bantustan (tribal homeland)
called Bophuthatswana.
The North West Province was created by the merger of Bophuthatswana
and the western part of Transvaal in 1994 under the new dispensation
of the new Republic of South Africa
