An Escape to Omaanda

When the stress and pressure of living in the big city get to you, sometimes one just needs to escape. Imagine escaping to an isolated 5-star lodge. I was fortunate enough to leave behind the city for a day and do just that.

A good friend and I decided to embark on a short adventure within the Khomas mountains of Namibia, a stone’s throw from the city (Windhoek), but far enough to block out the sounds of traffic and the bustling city noise.

We left Windhoek around 9 in the morning, not in any rush at all - we took a slow drive to take in as much of the scenery as possible. It wasn’t long before we decided to stop for a pitstop on top of a hill to get out, walk around and take it all in. To rid ourselves of the stress and anxiety that have been the last two years, we looked at one another, and screamed and laughed at the top of our lungs knowing that there was nobody around, just us and the beauty of the Khomas region.

Back on course, we arrived at Zannier Hotels Omaanda, upon arrival we were welcomed with a warm wet towel and welcome drink by the open fire before being shown to our hut - a nice touch, especially because it had been quite a cool day out!

Omaanda offers 10 Owambo-style thatch and clay huts, each designed with careful attention to detail, when looking around the room and public areas, it’s hard not notice that everything is has been uniquely selected and designed for it’s space.

Once we had settled, we considered a dip in the pool, but due to cold weather conditions, we decided our feet in the pool, while sipping on cocktails would suffice. Taking in the beautiful views, it wasn’t too long before we were fortunate enough to spot an Oryx up close by the water hole. A truly remarkable moment for both of us!

After a few hours by the pool and exploring the property, I decided to run a warm bath and enjoy the rest of the evening the way any king or queen would in my situation - with a gin & tonic in hand with the magnificent views over the Khomas mountains from the privacy of my room.

The atmosphere was so inviting, it was a home away from home with a touch of elegance and that is “Je Ne Sais Quoi”. The food was out of this world, the Head Chef was so attentive and came to our table to see if all was well and our standards were exceeded – which we can happily confirm.

Omaanda is a magical place. It felt so unreal, perfect actually! The staff were great, friendly, efficient and professional (5 stars). Everyone at Omaanda added a personal touch to the guest experience, at first when we arrived, we felt as guests but leaving, we felt like friends known by our first names.

I would highly recommend a visit to Omaanda. There are various activities available for day visitors too.
