Swakopmund & Walvis Bay

Recently, several Private Safaris staff from our Namibian office set off on a great dune adventure in the all-new Toyota Fortuner 4x4 GD-6. James Smit, Acting GM of Namibia at the time and current Head of IT for Southern Africa, was lucky enough to be a part of the expedition; this is his account of their weekend.

Eben, Adel and I made our way from our offices in Windhoek to Flamingo Villas Boutique Hotel in Walvis Bay via Swakopmund, arriving as the sun set. Despite the late arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to our large comfortable rooms. We were fortunate enough to have spectacular views of the sea with the vibrant Flamingos doing their “flamingo shuffle” for entertainment.

After an absolutely delicious breakfast in the hotel restaurant, we set off on the journey of a lifetime, heading towards Mile 4 in Swakopmund. We spent hours driving along the coast, seeing fishermen and their families along the way and ramping the dunes before we headed to The Musselcracker in Walvis Bay for lunch. That evening, we were so glad to relax and recover from the day's extraordinary activities. The next morning we eagerly climbed back into our 4x4, which still had sand on the rock slider rails – proof of our previous accomplishments. We couldn’t head back home without spending a little more time on the beach jumping over the dunes. Thanks to the generous ground clearance and rear diff-lock, every jump was effortless!

Overall this was an epic weekend, thanks to Private Safaris & Flamingo Villas Boutique Hotel.
